Yes. Each itinerary is collaboratively developed with international partners to ensure academic integrity, local relevance, and logistical feasibility. Once finalized, itineraries will be shared in advance so participants can familiarize themselves with all activities, locations, and expectations.

Trips typically align with fall and winter Reading Week breaks. Program-specific dates will be listed on the Beyond Borders-International Field Study website and included in the application form. Participants must be fully available for the duration of the scheduled dates, including travel.

Travel dates are confirmed as early as possible but may shift slightly due to airline availability or cost optimization. Final dates will be communicated well in advance of departure. All participants must remain flexible and prepared for minor adjustments.

No. All faculty, staff and students are expected to travel as a group to and from the destination. This ensures consistent supervision, shared arrival experiences, and coordinated transportation. Extensions will only be approved in the case of emergencies. 

No. Travel and accommodation are managed by the Beyond Borders team for security, coordination, and cost purposes. Custom travel plans, early departures, or late returns are not permitted outside of medical or emergency exceptions.

Yes. You must hold a valid passport that remains current for at least six months after your scheduled return date. You must have your passport in hand when applying to participate in a field study.

If the destination country requires a visa for travel the Beyond Borders team will assist you in the application process. You will be provided with documentation and instructions for timely completion, but the visa application and associated costs are the responsibility of the traveller.

Vaccination requirements vary by destination. You are expected to consult with a travel health clinic prior to departure. Recommended but optional vaccinations will be at your own expense. Participants are responsible for complying with all destination health entry requirements.

Each field study destination has different accommodation providers; options (depending on destination) include a combination of dorm-style rooms, homestays or hotels. Private accommodation cannot be guaranteed, and students will share rooms with other students.  

Local transportation is arranged through our in-country partners, tour companies or local transportation systems. Your travel to and from the airport in the destination country will be arranged prior to the trip departure.

Besides receiving approval from your direct supervisor and being selected to participate by Mohawk International, Mohawk College faculty and staff must fill out the Approvals for Travel Outside of Canada form and obtain the appropriate signatures. Once completed the document must be shared with Mohawk International. Expenditures related to travel will not occur until formal approval has been obtained.
