Awards
There is a range of student awards that provide financial support to help cover travel, program fees, and living expenses for study abroad, exchanges, field studies, and other international opportunities.
These funds are designed to reduce financial barriers so you can focus on learning, exploring, and gaining valuable skills, not worrying about the cost. Our team can guide you through eligibility requirements, deadlines, and the application process to make sure you don’t miss a chance to fund your experience.
International Field Study Subsidy
$2,000
Award Value
Mohawk College Students selected for the Beyond Borders –International Field Study will receive an automatic subsidy of $2,000. Students will not need to apply for this subsidy and will not receive these funds directly.
The Global Learning Award
$1,500
Award Value
The Global Learning Award helps offset costs for students who have completed the Beyond Borders: Building Global Skills and Cultural Competence course and been selected for the Beyond Borders – International Field Study. This funding supports travel-based global learning, making it easier to gain intercultural skills and career-ready experiences.
Amount Available: 2 per international field study.
Note: This award applies only to the Beyond Borders – International Field Study and is not available for faculty led field studies or other study abroad activities.

The Global Experience Award

Award Value
Apply for financial support to take your education abroad. This award helps cover some of the costs of international travel for a range of global experiences, including:
- Short-term programs with partner institutions
- International Experience Canada opportunities
- Faculty-led field schools and experiential learning such as co-ops, internships, placements, practicums, and research projects*
The Global Learning Award makes these opportunities more affordable and accessible, so you can gain valuable skills and experiences around the world.

Note: Students participating in opportunities that are part of their program of studies, can apply for the award once they have received approval from the academic area to pursue this opportunity abroad.

External Funding Sources
In addition to Mohawk College’s internal awards and bursaries, students and faculty can access a variety of external funding sources to support global learning.

The Study in Canada Scholarships offer Canadian post-secondary institutions the opportunity to host international students from a diverse range of countries and territories for short-term study or research exchanges.
The Study in Canada Scholarships program is open to students from all disciplines. Students wishing to pursue short-term studies or research in Canada should review the eligibility criteria and contact their home institution’s international office for application details.

Eligibility Criteria: Students from Latin America and the Caribbean
The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program scholarships provide students from Latin America and the Caribbean with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research, in Canada, at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

Eligibility Criteria: Students from the European Union
For nearly 30 years, the EU has funded the Erasmus programme, which has enabled over three million European students to spend part of their studies at another higher education institution or with an organisation in Europe.

Come work and travel in Canada through International Experience Canada (IEC)! It’s a government program designed to help you improve your English and French language skills and gain valuable international work experience.
Note: IEC does not provide funding for global opportunities but is noted here as a support for students who wish to come to Canada for a work and travel experience.

Opportunities are available to spend time teaching at an education institution abroad. These opportunities are available to both staff working in the education sector and to individuals working outside the sector invited to share their knowledge and experience.

Provides Canadian faculty with short-term opportunities to teach or conduct research in Latin America and the Caribbean, at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels. The Beyond Borders team will announce when funding is made available through this program.
An organization that connects community colleges globally to foster international partnerships, enhance educational opportunities, and address workforce development needs. CCID offers various opportunities for the Mohawk College community
A network that fosters collaboration among higher education institutions across North America and beyond. Its mission is to enhance internationalization and support educational, research, and cultural exchanges.

Eligibility Criteria: Canadian faculty teaching or conducting research in the United States
Operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides the opportunity for outstanding Canadian scholars to lecture and/or conduct research in the United States. Award recipients include prominent and promising scholars, as well as experienced professionals.

The objective of this program is to support team-oriented research projects between Canadian and Brazilian universities collaborating in mutually beneficial areas of research. The collaborations are expected to result in high quality research that will have an impact in Canada and in Brazil through the mobility of both Canadian and Brazilian research students and Project Leads. his program is open to all academic disciplines.
AWB is a non-profit organization focused on supporting higher education institutions in low- and middle-income countries to enhance their capacity for teaching, research, and community service. AWB leverages the expertise of academic volunteers worldwide to address educational challenges and promote sustainable development. As AWB members, Mohawk College faculty and staff have access to the following opportunities:
